In antiquity, all medicinal plants which presented a bitter, sweet or aromatic flavour upon chewing, were referred to as herbs. These qualities were attributed by this early man, to magic abilities which had the power upon entering an afflicted person’s body, to relieve or heal him from any disease. In certain situations, people use particular words or expressions to refer to herbs, which shows the importance given to them. An example is “I cannot find a herb to heal my wounds”.
